WHAT IS THE HUMANIST REPORT?

The Humanist Report (THR) is a political podcast that analyzes weekly news stories. Each news story we cover is supplemented with thought-provoking and fact-based commentary that is wholly objective, albeit progressive. While secular humanist, anti-theist and ideologically progressive views will be espoused, the same standard of judgement is administered in all cases; therefore, actions of all political party types; ranging from both the Democratic and Republican American parties to the British Labour and Conservative parties, will often be critiqued equally—as will individual politicians regardless of their party membership. 

Our goal, however, is not to appear neutral, but to remain objective. We do not aim to strike a false balance between preposterous political positions (e.g. climate change is a hoax, homosexuality is a choice, racism doesn’t exist, etc.), but instead strive to maintain ideological consistency across a broad spectrum of political issues. While the content itself is meant to be engaging, our goal is to encourage activism amongst viewers through various means; by influencing them to call their local representatives and/or vote, signing online petitions, and even coordinating protests. 

While American politics is a primary focus, broader international issues and domestic issues of countries throughout the world will often be discussed as well. We intend to tackle both bigger subjects, such as abortion, gay rights, feminism, and religiosity as well as more specific news stories, such as slip-ups from politicians, elections or particular laws and policies.

The THR host, Mike, is a researcher and upcoming first-year Ph.D student with expertise in American politics, comparative politics, international relations, and Middle East and North African politics with an interest in electoral engineering and Southeast Asian politics.
